Subaru unveils new Impreza design

Subaru has unveiled a concept version of the Impreza compact sedan that will be built next year in the United States.

The Impreza Sedan Concept, unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, illustrates Subaru’s new design language with crisper lines and sportier styling. A five-door hatchback concept was shown last month at the Tokyo Motor Show.

imprezaBoth cars show Subaru’s attempt to make its compacts sexier and more dynamic than current models. The Impreza four- and five-door cars will be assembled at Subaru’s factory in Lafayette, Ind., starting in mid-2016.

The sedan concept features Subaru’s Dynamic & Solid design elements and “a quality feel beyond its class,” the company said in a release.

The Impreza Sedan Concept has a wide and low stance, “hawk-eye” headlights and a prominent character line that runs from the front fender down the body and to the rear. The rear end isn’t as rounded as the current car and is more muscular.

The sedan concept has a wheelbase of 105.1 inches, about an inch longer than the current car; but with a length of 179.3 inches, it is nearly an inch shorter. The width of 70 inches is 1.5 inches more than today’s four-door production car. The height is unchanged at 57 inches.
